Angela's Ashes

Angela McCourt

        Angela is Frank's mother. She is a sweet, compassionate woman who was raised in a poverty stricken lifestyle. As a mother, she tried her best trying to raise her children in a healthy household. She is sad and depressed most of her life due to certain situations.


Frankie McCourt

    Frankie is the narrator of the story. He is the protagonist and is also the author of this memoir. He was a innocent Irish catholic child, who grew up into a independent young man. Frank  was raised in terrible conditions and had grown to cope with any obstacle in his way of living a good life.


Malachy McCourt

    Malachy is the father of the household. He loves his sons very much, but does not feel the same affection towards Angela. He spends all the family wages on alcoholic beverages and eventually abandons the family.


Malachy McCourt (brother)

    He is Frank's younger brother. He is a year younger.

Oliver and Eugene McCourt

    They are Frank's younger twin brothers that died six months apart from each other after  the death of the family's  only baby girl, Margaret.

Michael McCourt

    Franks brother that goes to school in Dublin. He is often referred to as "Seraph", which means angel on the seventh step of the house.

Alphie McCourt

    The youngest brother in the family.

Aunt Aggie

    Angela's sister and Franks grumpy aunt. She shows no affection towards anyone in their family and is often humiliated by their presence. She is often very helpful to the family.

Pa Keating

    Frank's kind and loving uncle. He spends many of his days comforting Frank and the boys, allowing them to dream of their futures and mentally guiding them for a better life.

Ab Sheehan

    He is Angela's brother and Frank's uncle. Ab is not very comforting like uncle Pat, but he still provides a roof over Frank's head when he decides to leave home.
